Intuit has always been very responsive to new feature requests, and each year they also manage to find some things that nobody had even thought of to add as well. One of my personal favorites is the improved "Company Snapshot". This is a combined dashboard of real-time information about your company where you can see a variety of information at a glance. Online Banking has been beefed up, and QuickBooks has added additional multi-currency support so that it supports all global currencies. The new Document Management System is really helpful for finally synchronizing your non-QuickBooks files with the data in QuickBooks. You can have other types of important, relevant documents at your fingertips.

Intuit has added some excellent features that will save your accountant time in making changes and corrections to your company records. You can now add or edit multiple transaction entries from within a spreadsheet view. And the Intuit Statement Writer will cut down on the time for doing financial statements.

QuickBooks is a streamlined accounting program that is extremely easy to learn. With some basic knowledge of how to track your finances, you can often be up and running quickly. The new customization features for invoices lends itself to a more professional look to your templates, and it's easy to use. Because it is such a widely-used program, it is easy to find help for your company if you want to hire an employee or contractor to do your bookkeeping for you. There won't be a big learning curve like there are with many other accounting packages.

Intuit offers many different implementations of QuickBooks to meet your specific needs. You can get them on a CD, or you can "go Green" and buy a digital download and have your new software on the spot without waiting for the mail to arrive. Versions include:

Intuit also offers reasonably-priced, integrated Merchant Services and Payroll services to keep you working efficiently. They have recently acquired PayCycle for additional payroll options. Intuit has forms and checks that are pre-designed to work seamlessly with QuickBooks. No more worrying about checks or forms lining up.

Intuit has always had excellent technical support. You get real people on the phone who are knowledgeable about QuickBooks and who can help you through a troubleshooting process to solve your problem. Their online troubleshooting resources are comprehensive as well. QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisors like myself also have access to a special hotline for support issues, so working wtih a ProAdvisor can help you to resolve problems more quickly and less expensively.

Note for Users of QuickBooks 2008 or earlier

Every year in May, Intuit changes its support policy for older versions of QuickBooks. This helps them to keep support costs reasonable and allows them to continue to offer various versions of QuickBooks at its great prices. This May, QuickBooks 2008 will move off into the sunset. This doesn't mean that your version of QuickBooks will stop working. What it means is that you will no longer get updates, bug fixes, payroll support, or technical support.

Frankly, it's a good idea to upgrade every three years or so, since earlier versions of QuickBooks will often not work well on newer operating systems or computers with newer browsers on them. QuickBooks is a complex program, and with the changes in the computer world happening so fast, you should keep QuickBooks up-to-date if you can fit it into your budget.
